Why Pump Tubing Was So Important To Our Lab Operation
Pump tubing is such a small thing when you take into account the grand scheme of things in the biochemical research lab, but once a tubing line is damaged or wears out, the clock suddenly stops. Everything has to stop in order to replace it, and that means a halt to the overall production. There are so many lab products as far as tubing is concerned to fit the pumps that are in place, but sourcing the robust and workable tubing that everyone needs is just a click away. Scientific pump products have to keep moving, so buying an excellent brand of tubing may be necessary.
There was a time where our old electrolyte system set separately from our primary chemistry analyzer was having real issues with the pump tubes, as it was wearing out quicker than it should do. The peristaltic laboratory pump was running OK, but after taking the rotator wheel to bits, we found out that two of the rollers were blocked up with electrolyte buffer crystals! This solved our dilemma, because the rollers were rolling rather than rubbing. It is odd how the results did not appear to be affected by all of this. Just in case we checked everything again, to be sure everything was copacetic.
Remember, there is very good quality peristaltic pump tubing (and many other types) available in the market, but choosing the right one that would be a money saver in the end depends on the reputation of the distributor and the physical properties of the tubing itself.
It took some time, since we get through our tubing at an alarming rate, but we finally decided on the platinum-cured silicon tube products for our main jobs, as it can take the work load of our laboratory.
