Sustainable development explained
Sustainable development has become quite an important word during recent times even if sometimes it is used in inappropriate situation. Some people may find it quite fashionable to brand anything as being sustainable even if it is not the case. It is important that people make some research on this term before using it. In order to help you learn more on this I have written this short article and hope that it can get you started in your research.
Sustainable development is all about picking out an economic model that does not induce any harm to the environment but also do not hurt the future generation. In other words we look to have a more holistic approach to development and not compromise the ability of the next generations to fulfill their own needs. As you will have probably noticed by now sustainable development is more than just caring for the environment. This text (only available in French) on sustainable development (developpement personnel) should be worth taking a look if you want to read more on this.
In a genuinely sustainable model of development there should be some efficient utilization of energy. As I have already stated above our future generation should also be considered when it amounts to development. This is the principal reason why we should manage our energy resources better. This is the only way that we can provide a good environment to our kids. This French article on ecology (pret taux zero ecologique) has really grabbed my attention and should be worth having a look.
It is also essential that we talk of pollution when it comes to sustainable development. This is the reason why we often employ the word sustainability in the same sentence. This is why many advocates of sustainable development suggest a shift to organic farming as less chemicals are used in this method. In this way there will be fewer problems on the environment. One great French article that I have recently discovered is organic food (recette potimarron) and should be worth reading.
To the contrary of what people may think sustainable development is not a new topic. In fact all has started back in 1970 where the word sustainability was being used. We can go back even earlier when Rachel Carson release her book Silent Spring in 1962. It is only know that we are seeing a global recognition for sustainable development but there is still a lot of work to do.
