Daphne AL Real Estate

March 13th, 2010

Among the most choice Baldwin County AL real estate is the small town of Daphne. Beautiful Daphne, AL real estate sits on the bluff overlooking the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. Originally, Daphne was the Baldwin County seat of government. However, Daphne’s courthouse records were stolen one night by the rival community of Bay Minette, AL, where the Baldwin County government offices remain today.

Daphne is often called The Jubilee City. “Jubilee” may be the word applied to special celebrations, but it has additional particular meaning along the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. A jubilee is a phenomenon that happens in the summer months just before sunrise on the bay. A variety of natural occurrences coincide to cause oxygen deprivation to the shallow water, bringing catfish, shrimp, mullet , crabs, and all other manner of sea life onto the shore. As the tide comes in, the fish are eventually trapped in shallow water at the beach where the locals wait to shout “Jubilee!” The waters teem with a variety of seafood that can be scooped up by the tubsfull. Seriously. The locals bring buckets and bags and tubs and fill them up with fish and shrimp and crabs to be frozen and enjoyed all year long. Once the sun comes up, those fish not caught, revive with oxygen and return to the bay. This is something you really must experience for yourself.
